I’m not sure who was more excited for my daughter’s third birthday this year, her or I! She picked the theme, dinosaurs, and I had so much fun bringing her party dream to life! I mean, you only turn three once, so why not?!

We have been tied up with moving and family things recently, but with a few very early mornings and help from my husband, we managed to pull it off just in time!

I’ve included links to all the small shops that we featured at our dinosaur birthday party, make sure to check them out and save to your Pinterest boards for later!

Outfit

You know, we always start with the outfit! Of course, the dress is handmade by mom (aka Sew Bright Creations). This dinosaur fabric has been very popular and the other dresses made in this fabric are currently sold out, however there are a couple NEW scarves, available HERE. Do dinosaurs ever go out of style?

One of my favourite things about shopping small is you can get custom items to suit your child’s style. Finding girl themed dinosaur items in store is not easy. In fact, I’ve even bought a few boy dinosaur shirts for my daughter.

The purse and tail are my favourite and my daughter absolutely loves them. The tail has brought so much laughter to our house the past few days, it really has been hilarious watching it wiggle around the house! It is also the perfect fit for my now three year old. The tail is handmade by Dragonfly Baby Canada and the purse handmade by Sweet Little MB. Yes, in Manitoba! This leather purse is so well made and I love that the strap is easily adjustable.

The birthday girl wasn’t the only one who had a special outfit! I may not have been into dinosaurs as a child, but it’s never too late, right?! I couldn’t resist the opportunity to make this day extra special for my girl. Mommysaurus t-shirt was handmade by Little M Custom Designs in Saskatoon and leggings are from Sweet Legs by Andrea in Pleasantdale. My daughter also has a matching pair! They are incredibly soft and super comfortable, for both of us!

Cake

Cake was another early morning! I purchased the dinosaur cake pan from the Bulk Barn and figured with the detail in the pan, it would be easy to decorate. Well, it ended up okay, but we lost a lot of cake to the pan! I ended up using the back side and making it a very simple dinosaur. The sparkly black “three” cake topper is handmade from Glitter Paper Scissors.

Decorations

We had the cutest dinosaur banners and toppers custom made by Glitter Paper Scissors to match our pink dinosaur theme just perfectly! I made the black dinosaurs with q-tip bones, as inspired by Pinterest!

The black dinosaur plant holder is made by Bailiwick Studios. When I saw this on her Instagram, I knew we had to have one! Oh and did I mention that all of these small shops are Canadian?! Even better. This dinosaur is meant for an air plant, but we weren’t able to pick ours up on time so I found this fake plant to use instead and I like it!

Food

What to make for a kids birthday party? My goal was something that didn’t require a lot of last minute cooking, was easy, something the kids would eat, but adults could enjoy too. We kept it very simple this year and went with ham, macaroni and cheese and fresh cut vegetables. We like crowd pleasers. I put the macaroni and cheese in the crock pot and it worked great to keep it warm.

For the veggie dip I cut a red pepper in half, cut triangles out of it like teeth and placed it in the dip. ROAR! I had fun adding the mini dinosaur toppers from Glitter Paper Scissors to the rest of the food as well. They really topped it off 😉

Of course we also had some dinosour candies and dinosaur shaped cookies!

Fun

This age is fun because the kids just love to play so the only activity I really planned was the piñata. I had all these grand ideas about making my own up, but when I saw this one for only $14 at the Bulk Barn, I couldn’t say no! We filled it with candy and mini plastic dinosaurs.

Playing with one of her new presents 🙂 Tail and all!

Make a Wish

My daughter has been talking about her dinosaur birthday party for months, I was beginning to get worried what she would think when it was over. So the other day, I said to her, “What are we going to do when your birthday party is over?” She looked at me and replied, “Blow out the candles Mom.” I love this age!
