You have no idea how good it feels to have this room done! It has literally been a work in progress since early 2019 and on my mind since the day we moved into our house!
One of the reasons we bought this house was because it had three bedrooms upstairs. Actually, it was the only house we looked at that had three bedrooms upstairs, most were only two, with additional bedrooms in the basement, but we didn’t like the idea of having our daughter or future kids sleeping in the basement at a young age. Mostly I didn’t want to be going down steep stairs in the middle of the night! Just before we moved into this house, I miscarried. It then became mentally difficult for me to want to renovate this bedroom, the one we picked out for our future baby. I went on to miscarry three more times in this house, which diminished any motivation to turn this room into a baby room. It got to the point where I knew we needed to do something with it, so we decided to start renovating and turn it into a guest bedroom. It was never fully complete, but it was a big improvement and also neutral enough to easily be converted into a nursery, as we hoped we’d be able to do.
Fast forward to now, August 2020, as we patiently, or maybe not so patiently, wait for the arrival of our sweet rainbow baby, I’m SO EXCITED to FINALLY share the finished room and nursery. BUT FIRST, we always start with the before photos!
BEFORE –
PROGRESS –
This is nearly finished, when we used it for a guest bedroom.
AFTER –
And now the finished nursery! I have slowly been working on the little details over the last few months, just soaking it all in.

With a little guidance my husband built this closet using pine shelving from the hardware store. We finished it with clear Varathane (for easy cleaning) and I just love how simple, but practical it is. So far all the closets we have redone are like this.
In the first photo – most clothes hanging up are hand me downs from our daughter. The cloth diapers and inserts I bought second hand from a friend. She’s a boy mom so if we have another girl I may need to trade some in, but for now they will get us going!
Here are sources for the hanging rack on the next photo!
