There was an old women, who lived in a shoe… well, I have no idea if an old women lives in this shoe, but the shoe house is a real thing! We had heard about this house so we went adventuring last weekend to check it out! It was a little further off the highway then we thought, but we did find it. We actually had decided to turn around right at the house, then noticed it hiding behind the trees. If you are in the Smithers area, this is a must see! It’s a great half day adventure and I’ve even included directions below so you don’t get led astray like we were! Let us know in the comments if you’ve been to this house or know anything about it!

Directions to the Shoe House

Coming from Smithers:

Go west on Highway 16 towards Moricetown. Turn left on Kitseguecla Loop Road (it’s about 5 minutes, or less, before (east of) Moricetown) then right onto Kitseguecla Lake Road. Follow the road for about 9 km and you’ll first see these signs on the left hand side. Just passed the signs you’ll see the shoe house behind the trees. Don’t forget to sign the guest book while you’re there!

I don’t know anything about this house or if people actually live in it, but it sure is cool and worth the drive!
We made a circle route and drove to Moricetown, had a picnic at the RV Park & Museum Playground (was an awesome playground by the way) and took the Telkwa High Road back to Smithers. Definitely recommend this little adventure! Check out some of our other favourite things to do in Smithers HERE.

Let us know if you’ve seen this house or plan to make the trip!
