It’s Week 5 of the One Room Challenge and this is my update for both weeks 4 and 5 because I had no update last week! Keep reading to see why. FYI, ORC = One Room Challenge, you’ll see this acronym a lot over the next 8 weeks!

Office Renovation – Spring 2023
First, let’s talk about what the One Room Challenge is. Have you heard of it? It’s a biannual event that is held every spring and fall. Anyone with a blog, Instagram or TikTok account is welcome to join the fun. It goes over 8 weeks and each week you share an update on your room. It’s a fun way to connect with other like minded people and be able to encourage each other through all the ups and downs of renovating! I highly encourage you to check out all the other participants HERE.

PROJECT GOAL: Make this space bright, neutral and functional so we have storage and organization for jackets, shoes board games and kid stuff. We have a lot of morning light that comes through the windows and we want that light to transfer through the house.
Week 4&5 Renovation Progress
Nothing happened in week 4 due to sickness in the family and waiting on contractors. I’m used to having to wait for others to do the work and frankly, I’m not very good at it… Kinda makes sense because that’s one big reason why I just like to do it myself and get it done!
We ended up hiring an electrician to remove all the electrical in the wall we want to remove, relocate a few other outlets in the room and install pot lights! I LOVE the lights, they already make the space feel more modern.
I started removing one of the three layers of wall from the wall we want to remove. The drywall is now gone and I’ll remove the panel board and wood once I’ve finished all the sanding work in the room. I want to keep the panel on to keep the dust down in the rest of the house while I sand that room.
To hire an electrician, I asked around for recommendations, called 3 places, 2 called back and came to review the project and provide a quote at my request. The one I liked better was a few hundred dollars cheaper so thats who I went with. They were also able to perform the work sooner than the other one. Still waiting on the invoice, so it’s not over yet but I was happy with the service performed.
Next up, repairing drywall holes from the electrician, drywall where the closet was and drywall on the ceiling, also where the closet was.
