It’s Week 8, reveal week of the One Room Challenge and although I don’t have a complete room renovation to show you, I do have a reveal! We’ll call this reveal of part one of this project. Several additional parts to follow on an unknown timeline 🙂

Office Renovation – Spring 2023
First, let’s talk about what the One Room Challenge is. Have you heard of it? It’s a biannual event that is held every spring and fall. Anyone with a blog, Instagram or TikTok account is welcome to join the fun. It goes over 8 weeks and each week you share an update on your room. It’s a fun way to connect with other like minded people and be able to encourage each other through all the ups and downs of renovating! I highly encourage you to check out all the other participants HERE.

PROJECT GOAL: Make this space bright, neutral and functional so we have storage and organization for jackets, shoes board games and kid stuff. We have a lot of morning light that comes through the windows and we want that light to transfer through the house.
Week 8 *Reveal* Renovation Progress
Mr. Sew Bright and I both worked extra hard this week to get the room to a “finished for now” state. We also made some big decisions with regards to the wall. We’ve secured an engineer/contractor to complete the work and will update more on that as the job progresses.

Huge thank you to The Rug District for sending this beautiful new Loloi rug to help keep our home cozy and comfortable while we continue these renovations. Click HERE for details on the one I picked out. It is 100% polyester pile / low pile which makes it great for keeping clean and cleaning. I have a similar one in my office and love it so much. It always looks clean and that says a lot coming from a house with kids and a dog.
Back Entrance Renovation Costs
This is where I keep track of all the costs! Check back each week so how much this One Room Challenge is costing us!
NOTE: no change from last week.
- -$50, sold a coat rack and busy board on the buy and sell
- $75 Building Permit Application
- $5 Plumbing part
- $23 sheet of drywall
- $15 drywall filler
- $1380 electrical bill
TOTAL COST: $1448
This cost will go up exponentially once the engineer gets going …
Progress from our One Room Challenge

- Week 2: Fill drywall holes, remove drywall from wall we want to take out
- Week 3: Remove tile flooring
- Week 4: Not much happened
- Week 5: Started removng
- Week 6: Poppa Sew Bright helped repair drywall holes left from the electrician
- Week 7: Drywall mudding and sanding
- Week 8: Finished drywall, finished removing all the wall we can, primed walls and added a new rug
Next Steps for our Back Entrance Renovation

- Paint the walls
- Paint window sill
- Install window trim
- Install caps on ceiling from old electrical
- Install storage cabinets
The next steps out of our control are removing the wall, which will be done by a contractor. Once that is done we’ll need to make the ceiling uniform between both sides and patch it, then paint in the rest of the living room, hallways and new flooring throughout.
